Apple has announced a new smart speaker, the HomePod mini. Apple has unveiled its second generation of smart speakers and unveiled the HomePod Mini at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco. At 8.5cm tall, Apple’s HomePod mini looks like the iPhone 6 but has a more spherical shape. It has a flattened top where the Siri waveforms and colour animations are located. As mentioned, the spherical design is not unlike the new Amazon Echo 2020.
Apple has yet to reveal how wide the new smart speaker is. They promise an audio experience unprecedented in size, which is a considerable claim given the size of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 Plus, both of which have a much slimmer waist. Apple says the Mini claims a 10% improvement in sound quality over its predecessor. Everything we know about a more affordable Apple speaker and how it could hold its own against rivals such as Amazon and Google. After Apple unveiled its smart speakers, the successor has a better chance of success. Apple appears to have studied the market and decided to bring an affordable smart speaker to boost sales of its smart speaker range. It seems that Apple has concluded that the $99 price tag for an Apple product is economical.
The new HomePod Mini speaker will be priced at a level that makes it compete with smart speakers such as Google’s Nest Mini and Amazon’s Echo, where the Home Pod started at $49.99. The Google Nest Smart mini speaker is the cheapest in its class, priced between $49 and $99. The home speaker version of Apple’s Homepod Mini is priced at the same price. There is also a HomePod Mini, which allows users to place their iPhone in close proximity to the speakers to let them know the details of what the speaker is playing. Apple says you can keep your iPhone near the Homepod Mini and the two will interact with each other. A new feature in the “Handoff” style, which will be released later this year, gives both tactile feedback. Finally, there is a nice visual effect to see when the iPhone is close, similar to the Apple Watch.
A new feature called ‘Intercom’, which allows the HomePod Mini to communicate with iOS devices via CarPlay. It is being built-in, so that you can now connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Watch or any other device to your Homepod Mini and it will talk again.
This compact smart speaker delivers 360 degrees sound and is powered under Apple’s S5 chip. The smart speakers are powered by the Apple S4 chip, which uses computer-aided audio technology for better audio performance. The Apple HomePod Mini also has voice control for Siri, Apple’s smart home control.
The Apple HomePod Mini is equipped with three microphone arrays for listening to “Hey Siri” and three rows of microphones, with a fourth microphone facing inwards to improve voice recognition when playing music. However, it clearly connects the speaker to apps running on iPhones and aims to work with Apple products and services. It is a new feature that allows it to act as an ultra-broadband base station and precisely locate U1 devices such as the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6. It is 3.3 inches tall and HomePod mini is packed with innovative technology and also advanced software that together enable computational audio to deliver breakthrough audio quality. HomePod mini is available in white and space grey at a great price of just $99.
